Best Master-Thesis 2020 – Award of the German Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

2021/01/25

For the first time at the TU Darmstadt two students are presented with the best Master-Thesis-Award of the German Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM) in 2020. Both, the thesis by Claudia Baier entitled “Characterization of miR-574-5p sorting into exosomes” and the thesis by Felix Hamburger – “Development of an automated, robot-assisted high-throughput cloning and screening method for optimizing amylase production and secretion in Bacillus subtilis” convinced the selection committee and the award was bestowed to both students in equal parts.

Ms. Baier completed her research in the field of synthetic RNA-biology in the lab of Dr. Meike Saul. Mr. Hamburger was supervised by Prof. Johannes Kabisch, head of the research group Computer-aided Synthetic Biology. Both master's theses are particularly impressive due to their high scientific standards, their degree of difficulty and their exemplary experimental implementation. The award ceremony will be held online in early February 2021. The awards will be presented by H. Schiller and R. Klein as representatives of the Junior-GBM-Darmstadt together with Prof. Göringer as the spokesperson of the GBM.
