Intercultural Exchange and Scientific Exploration: University of Gdańsk Students Visit TU Darmstadt

2024/11/26

From November 4 to 8, the Faculty of Biology at TU Darmstadt had the pleasure of hosting 16 bachelor students from the University of Gdańsk, accompanied by Prof. Monika Glinkowska and student coordinator Katarzyna Żamojda. The visit, supported by DAAD funding, provided a platform for intercultural exchange and scientific collaboration, building on the long-standing connection between Prof. Monika Glinkowska and Prof. Torsten Waldminghaus, head of TU Darmstadt’s Molecular Microbiology Group .

The visiting students were introduced to TU Darmstadt's master’s programs and participated in a dynamic podium discussion on career opportunities in biology. They explored various laboratories across the campus, with a special interest in synthetic biology and cutting-edge technologies like 3D bioprinting at the Department of Engineering. At the Molecular Microbiology Group, Prof. Waldminghaus and his team presented their research, including a hands-on introduction to molecular biology software tools, sparking enthusiasm among the students.

This academic exchange also extended to a visit to Mainz University. The trip left a lasting impression, with several students expressing interest in returning for internships or pursuing a master’s in Synthetic Biology at TU Darmstadt.

As a visiting professor at the University of Gdańsk, Prof. Waldminghaus has strengthened this collaboration through his courses in synthetic biology, ensuring continued scientific and cultural ties between the two institutions.
