Since 2010, the Carlo and Karin Giersch Foundation has awarded the ‘Athena Prize for Good Teaching’ to individuals, groups or organisational units that have introduced exemplary and outstanding formats in academic teaching. The prizes are endowed with a total of 46,000 euros.

The CompuGene Student Lab is a student project at the biology department supported from the Centre for Synthetic Biology at TU Darmstadt. The students independently set up a research project related to synthetic biology. This includes developing their own research idea, working independently in the lab and acquiring research funding. The students work together from the initial idea to publication. The results can be published or patented and presented at competitions or symposia.

Kai Kabuth, Antonia Schetle and Melina Baur were honoured for their outstanding student commitment in establishing and organising the CompuGene Student Lab.
